3 Simple Steps to Avoid Chapped Winter Skin

Winter is here, and with it comes dry skin, redness and chapping. During the winter, low-humidity and artificial indoor heat combine to sap your skin of moisture, resulting in dry patches, rough texture and a dull complexion.

To keep your skin looking and feeling, soft, radiant and healthy all winter long, follow these simple precautionary steps.

1. Exfoliate daily
Because winter weather tends to dry skin out, you may find that your skin flakes and sheds. Dead skin cells can clog pores, leading to winter acne, irritation and dull-looking skin. Exfoliating daily will help to clear pores so your skin can absorb moisture and you can keep a glowing, luminous complexion even in the blistery winter weather.

2. Cleanse with care
Splashing some hot water on your face after coming in from the frigid cold may feel good, but hot water breaks down your skin’s natural oils and strips it of moisture, causing dry, flaky skin, rough texture, redness and irritation. Use warm water while cleansing your face and don’t bask in sweltering showers. Always use a mild cleanser and pat skin dry gently with a soft towel. Moisturize immediately afterward to seal in hydration while your pores are open.

3. Don’t forget your  SPF
One of the most comment winter skin care mistakes is neglecting to use sunscreen. People assume that because the air is cold, they don’t need sun protection. But the earth is actually closest to the sun during winter months, making skin especially prone to chapping. Make a broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) SPF part of your daily routine.
